Gridiron Greats Billfish Bowl, This awesome fishing tournament will take place February 4th-6th, 2010, at Jimmy Johnson’s Big Chill, a incredible waterfront resort and restaurant located at Fishermans’ Cove Resort in Key Largo, Florida, at mile marker 104. These dates place the event one week after the NFL Pro Bowl and just days before the biggest media event in the world, Super Bowl XLIV. Both the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl take place in Miami, an hour’s drive north of Key Largo. You can bet that Jimmy’s football buddies in town for the big game will come to Key Largo for some great fishing, rest and relaxation.

Two-time Super Bowl winning Coach Jimmy Johnson chose to use the Billfish Bowl to raise money for a cause close to his heart, and formed a partnership with NFL Hall of Famer Mike Ditka and Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund. A portion of the proceeds from the Billfish Bowl will go directly to the GGAF, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial assistance and health services to retired football players in dire need.

The Billfish Bowl looks to bring together some of today’s best-known football personalities with Florida’s most competitive and affluent fishing teams for a world-class event.

Live Bait Chumming has recently had a lot of attention on it especially in the Florida keys. Jose Wejebe of Spanish Fly has made this a very popular way of fishing. On a recent episode of Spanish Fly TV he heads out to collect live bait that they later employ for chumming up predators and to use as live bait.

Here’s a great fishing video on how he live bait chums in the Florida keys.

What is Live Bait Chumming? It is a technique where you use live bait and disperse it without hooks aroung the boat to chum up predator species the same as you would use regular chum. Sometimes live bait chumming is done in conjucton with dead bait chumming.

Santa will have come and gone, but then just before the clock strikes in the New Year of 2009, Spanish Fly with host Capt Jose Wejebe will air its first show of the new season.  The shows start airing on December 28th, 2008.  Capt. Jose Wejebe, drives home the point that fishing and the saltwater world is an adventure whether it’s in your back yard or some far-off place.  His travels this season are places close to home such as Key West and Cape Canaveral, and others are literally half way around the world in Africa. “We’ve been to some interesting spots and met some great people in the process, hopefully you’ll get to go there and get to know some of these people and places as well, even if it is vicariously through the tube.” Capt. Jose says.  Enjoy this season of Spanish Fly!
